One of the most impressive things about Kaplinsky is the fact that he is self-taught. Many of us have trouble drawing a stick figure but Matt has been working on his craft for a while. He admits that much of his inspiration is derived from architecture and geography, specifically outside of his hometown in north Texas. This is evident in his wide variety of gorgeous work that includes places outside of the Lonestar state.
 

From photo to canvas

Kaplinsky loves to draw inspiration from experiences he's had and sights he's seen. Not only does he recall full images from photography, but he copies the colors and textures from his mind's eye.
 

He claims that he loves taking photos on his expeditions and travels because it allows him to remember scenes as they were when he saw them. Later on, he prides himself on being able to recreate those scenes with paint — but they don't always look exactly like what he saw the first time.
 

Abstraction is when an artist chooses to take an orthodox subject and make it look skewed or abstracted. This kind of art is considered beautiful to most and confusing to some. It allows Kaplinsky to fuse his artistry into his memories and express it as art. This has become his own unique style, and it has been received quite well.

Galleries weren’t always Matt’s forte 

It may be hard to believe, but he hasn't always sold his works in galleries. He claims that he began by casually selling his works in coffee shops and hair salons. He even sold some of his work out of the back of his pickup truck. 

The colors and style 

The colors used in Kaplinsky's art evoke a playful feeling since they are bright and youthful. His impressionist style allows the colors to bounce across the page creating a gorgeous, captivating painting that interests viewers of all ages. He also creates charcoal images, which provide a contrast to his bright paintings.
